Grand Lotto

Chances of winning is 1 in 29 million

Yes, those are the winning combinations for the Philippine’s biggest lotto prize in history. The lone winner if from the SBMA in Olongapo City. The take home pay is P741,176,323.20. Geez, just imagine what you could do with all that money. I have already fantasized about how to spend it. 🙂 The problem is, i’m not a die hard lotto bettor. Although I placed a bet for this prize twice, I did not win it. I was not able to bet yesterday when someone else got very lucky. Oh well, as they always say, there is a time and place for everything. Maybe it’s not yet my time to win and Gensan may not yet be the place to win it. But if I do win. . . I won’t blog it here. Hahaha.

More of the details here.

Remembering 9/11

September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City: V...

Image via Wikipedia

Nine year ago I was in Cotabato City and was alone in my room. While I was reading a book,  I got a sms from my counterpart at around eight in the evening that the World Trade Center in New York was hit by a plane. Then after maybe an hour, another sms came telling me that the other building was hit by another plane. I didn’t have a TV nor did I have a computer with me in Cotabato back then. I just relied on the news from my friends.

I was quiet amazed about what was happening. However it did not sunk into me until the following day when I heard that thousands died because both towers collapsed within hours after what was then determined as a terrorist attack. It was a very disturbing fact. The situation was almost unreal.

The USA in our point of view had always been the most ideal country in the world. This could not be happening to them, but it did. We were proven wrong. This only demonstrates that the US is as vulnerable as any country in the world.

This made me contemplate that no matter where you are, if your time is up, then it is up. That life is precious. That we should be thankful for every sunshine that we see and be joyful for every sunset that we catch a glimpse of. That we must be happy for the simple things that we have. That everyday is a gift of life that we should treasure and live to the fullest. That a few minutes of prayer is never wasted. That God is so good that he still let us enjoy our life.

So let us not forget to thank the Lord everyday for the gift of life and continue to pray for peace. Amen!

Caffé Firenzo

No Coffee for me!

CaffĂ© Firenzo is located right across the street from the main lobby of Sun City Suites Gensan. I was there a few nights ago. I think people in Gensan are coffee lovers because there are so many coffee shops here that you can go to a different one everyday for the rest of the week. I’m not much of a coffee lover so I just got one of their cold drinks. Instead of checking out their variety of coffees, I checked out their Wifi instead. PLDT is their ISP (just like at home). The speed is great as it registered a 3.81 mbps on my first reading which astonished me and so I got a second reading after a while which registered a 1.6 mbps.

The actual speed in my opinion is much slower but is still decent enough compared to other wifi zones. Although their wifi has a password, it’s very easy to guess what it is if you just think hard enough. It starts with sun and ends with suites (one word with no spaces). At around 11:30 PM, the place is full and people are still coming in. Well, that is the trend in Gensan, when a new place opens, people flock to check it out. However if people still come to the place after a few months or years, then that place must have something distinctive to offer. I’m pretty sure CaffĂ© Firenzo will stand the test of time due to its location, its uniqueness and its cozy place.

Sept 1, 2010

Can anyone tell me how many songs are there that has September in either the lyrics or the title of the song? I can think of a couple of right now without even consulting Mr. Google. Here they are: September by EWF and Wake me up when September ends by Greenday. Why is September such a significant month? For people in America, I was told that it’s the end of summer and that winter is coming. Somebody correct me if this is wrong. In the Philippines, when September arrives there can only be one significant thing that comes to people’s mind: Christmas! It’s the start of the “ber” months. Today and even as early as midnight last night, my Facebook friends posted Christmas greetings on their walls. I even received a sms this morning, jokingly reminding me  that as early as now Christmas gifts are already accepted. Hahaha or is it Ho Ho Ho! 🙂 Well, that is the reason why we Filipinos are well known to have the longest Christmas celebration in the world. Oh well, the air does indeed feel a little bit more like Christmas. BTW, gifts are indeed accepted as early as today so just leave a comment as to where I can get it. Thanks.

123 Days!

Its been 123 days since my last post. That is exactly four months and 1 day. A lot of things happened during those 123 days. But all I can think of right now are things that weren’t there four months ago. Here are a few: I got a new car. It’s a Vios. I got two new phones. A Samsung Omnia Pro and a HTC  Touch Viva with a Lenovo Net book. The HTC and net book are company issued and so is the car 🙂 . I got a new watch, a Luminox Special Edition Blackout. Well, those are the gadgets that I got. I’m happy with them. It’s a different kind of high for me. However, my wallet says otherwise. Haha.

I’m trying to be more frugal but it’s very hard to do so specially now that Gensan is really becoming more and more a metropolis of the south. Malls are sprouting like mushrooms. I learned from Bariles (which is my primary source of “whats new” in Gensan) that SM will be groundbreaking in September. Robinson’s Place have shops that are catering to my needs. KCC is also upgraded and have opened more shops. Gaisano becomes a bargain hunter’s paradise. Plus new places to go like Ice Castle, Sun City Suites and its arcade and a lot more new spots. Gensan have surely become a great place to be.

Soccsksargen Bloggers Google Precinct Mapping Party

There is always a first time for everything. Well, yesterday I’ve had a lot of firsts. It was my first time in Grab a Crab/Coffee Club 101 Robinsons mall (I’m a more or less regular customer in their 1st branch). It was my first time to join the Soccsksargen Bloggers get together. It was my first time to participate in Google Mapping and first time to meet those very friendly and jolly members of the group.

Sir Avel a.k.a Bariles was as friendly as can be when I arrived an hour late. He gave up his seat to accommodate me in the jam-packed oval room of Grab a Crab Robinsons Place. He handed me a free shirt which say Google Map Maker at the back. It was a cool shirt. After a brief introduction and a great welcome we went back to business. I had trouble logging in to the Wifi of Coffee Club 101 and so I just logged in to the neighbors (Bigby’s) network. The task was really easy, all you have to do is tag a voting precinct that you can locate in google maps. Almost all the popular precinct was already identified. I managed to tag 2 schools which I knew. After about an hour when some of the precincts can no longer be located or perhaps cannot be identified (perhaps you know when Aspang Elementary School is?) we settled down for a Siopao and Coffee courtesy of Coffee Club. (BTW, I’ve learned that Grab a Crab will be having their Dimsum soon.) After awhile we had a group picture. (of which I don’t have a copy but its all in Facebook) I did manage to get a video of the group. I hope we can have another activity like this soon.

Earth Hour

Today at 8:30 to 9:30 PM will be the Earth Hour for 2010. The event is on its third year now. I am a supporter of Earth Hour but I think I will pass this year. As I have stated in my Facebook shoutout: I wanted to join the Earth Hour, but I think 6 hours of Blackout today and almost everyday for almost a month now is more than a fare share. It would have been great if  turning off the lights would be my initiative but in my case that in not an option. The electricity was turned off by Socoteco from 10AM to 1PM and 4PM to 7PM today. Its more than one earth hour. If your city is not affected by the power crisis, please participate. Reducing one’s carbon footprints is a must. Global Warming is a reality. I hope each one of us will do our own little way to help.

Edit: At 8:30PM while I was making this blog. .the lights were turned off. . not by me voluntarily but by Socoteco! I wanted to shout in anger but hey, its earth hour. My only rant is that, they should not have cut the electricity earlier today. This is the 3rd time for the day.

Anyway, Here is the official video for the Earth Hour 2010 .

Blogging from the 17th floor of Marco Polo Cebu

A view from the top. That’s what I have now. Aside from being on top of a high hill here in Cebu, I’m on the 17th floor of Marco Polo hotel. So the view is really awesome. Continue reading

1:15 A.M.

I like the song by Craig David specially when played very loud. . .but I hate the disorder. Well you just have to get used to it. Thank God for the internet.

Maybe with Insomnia, I can go on blogging again. Its been a long time. It’s only January. I can do this. . .Here I go again.
